What This Error Means
F0 on a GE Profile dishwasher means a stuck keypad / control panel error.
The control board thinks one of the buttons is being held down constantly, so it locks out normal operation and can refuse to start, cancel, or change cycles.
Official Fix
Here is the official, manual-style procedure:
- Kill power to the dishwasher at the breaker or unplug it. Leave it off for at least 2 minutes.
- While power is off, check the buttons. Make sure nothing looks jammed, cracked, or pushed in at a weird angle. Wipe the panel clean and dry.
- Restore power. Do not touch any buttons for about 60 seconds so the control can fully reset.
- Try to start a normal wash cycle and watch the display. See if F0 comes back.
- If F0 pops up again or the panel is still dead or glitchy, the official answer is: the user interface (keypad/control panel) and/or the main control board need replacement and you should schedule authorized service.
That is the factory playbook: reset, inspect, and swap the control parts if the code returns.
The Technician’s Trick
This is how a real field tech separates a bad keypad from a bad main board without guessing.
- Shut off power at the breaker. Do not work on the door with live power.
- Open the door and remove the screws around the inner door liner so you can separate the inner and outer door panels. Support the outer panel so it does not drop.
- At the top of the door, find the electronic control board and the flat ribbon cable or harness coming from the keypad/control panel.
- Unplug that keypad ribbon from the control board. Pull it straight out so you do not bend pins or tear the cable.
- Restore power with the keypad still unplugged and close the door.
- If F0 is gone now (the unit will not respond to buttons because the keypad is unplugged, but the error code should not flash), the keypad / user interface assembly is the bad part.
- If F0 still shows even with the keypad completely disconnected, the main control board is the culprit.
- Kill power again, plug everything back in, reassemble the door, then order and replace only the failed part instead of throwing both boards at it.
One more insider move: if the panel got wet from steam or a spill, kill power, leave the door open, gently dry around the buttons, and let it sit a few hours. A moisture-soaked keypad can throw an F0 that clears once it dries.
If taking the door apart sounds like too much, stop after the basic reset and call a pro. Do not pry or force the trim pieces; they crack easily and are not cheap.
Is It Worth Fixing? (The Financial Verdict)
- ✅ Fix: Dishwasher is under about 8–10 years old, no leaks, cleans well otherwise, and you are looking at just a keypad or control board swap.
- ⚠️ Debatable: Unit is 10–12 years old, racks are rusty, or you already have wash quality or noise issues. Compare parts and labor to a mid-range replacement.
- ❌ Replace: Tub is rusted or leaking, multiple error codes keep showing up, or control parts plus labor start creeping over 50% of a solid new dishwasher.
