What This Error Means
F53 on a Sonos Arc means the internal amplifier has hit a protection fault.
The bar has detected an internal power/amp problem, so it shuts audio down or refuses to start to avoid frying itself.
Official Fix
Do the basics the way support will make you do them anyway:
- Kill the power properly
Unplug the Arc from the wall.
Leave it dead for at least 60 seconds so the power supply fully discharges.
Plug it back into a known-good wall outlet (no extension lead or strip for this test). - Strip it down to just power
Pull the HDMI/eARC cable out of the TV.
Disconnect any Ethernet cable if you have one plugged in.
Leave only the power cord connected.
Power it back up and watch the LED, then check the Sonos app to see if F53 still shows with nothing else attached. - Rule out overheating
If it lives in a tight cabinet or right under a hot TV, pull it out into open air.
Give it 20–30 minutes to cool off completely.
Try powering it again while it’s out in the open. - Force a clean network/app start
Open the Sonos app, make sure your phone is on the same Wi‑Fi as the Arc normally uses.
In the app, go to Settings > System > System Updates and hit Check for Updates.
If it offers a firmware update, install it and reboot the Arc once more afterward. - Try a different power source
Test a different wall outlet in the same room.
If you normally use a surge protector or power strip, bypass it for this test.
If F53 disappears on a different outlet, you’ve likely got a bad strip or dirty power. - When it still says F53 after all that
At this point, you’re almost certainly looking at an internal amp or power board fault.
